Give three conditions necessary for germination?

Open in App
Solution

Germination: It is a natural process in which a seed grows into a seedling and later into a young plant.

Conditions necessary for the germination of seeds:

Water-

  1. Dormant seeds are dry and contain only 5-10% of water.
  2. In the presence of sufficient water, seeds swell, and the seed coat breaks.
  3. The plumule develops into the shoot system and the radicle forms the root system.

Temperature-

  1. Every plant grows at a suitable or optimum temperature.
  2. The optimum temperature is different for every plant.
  3. The range of optimum temperature is 10 to 30 degrees Celsius.

Oxygen-

  1. Plants need oxygen for respiration.
  2. Oxygen helps plants to release energy from the stored food in cotyledons
