• By methylation of sodium phenoxide with dimethyl sulfate or methyl chloride-

$2C_6{H}_5-ONa\underset{-{Na}_{2}S{O}_4}{\overset{{\left(C{H}_{3}O\right)}_{2}S{O}_2}{\to }}\underset{\left(\text{Anisole}\right)}{2C_6{H}_5-OC{H}_3}$

• Using diazomethane-

$C_6{H}_5-OH+H_{2}C=\stackrel{+}{N}=\stackrel{-}{N}\stackrel{B{F}_3}{\to }\underset{\left(\text{Anisole}\right)}{C_6{H}_5-OC{H}_3}$
