  1. Air pollution refers to any physical, chemical or biological changes that reduces the quality of air and brings about harmful effects on the ecosystem.

The three respiratory diseases caused by air pollution are:

  1. Asthma - It is a condition in which your airways narrow and swell and may produce extra mucous. Symptoms include wheezing, breathlessness, chest tightness, and night-time or early morning coughing.
  2. Lung cancer- Carcinogenic agents may cause cells of the lungs to become cancerous and they start dividing rapidly and create large cellular masses called tumours.
  3. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease - It refers to a class of diseases that lead to irreversible airway blockage.
