Solution
Neutralization reaction:
The reaction in which acid reacts with a base to form salt and water is called a neutralization reaction.
The salt produced can be acidic, basic, or neutral based on the type of reacting acid and base.
Application of Neutralization reaction:
When an ant or bee bites they release formic acid into the skin causing pain and swelling, this can be neutralized by rubbing the mild base like sodium bicarbonate onto the skin.
With the excessive use of fertilizers, the soil becomes acidic and is not suitable for farming, to make the soil neutral it is treated with bases like calcium oxide also known as quicklime, or calcium hydroxide also known as slaked lime.
