Communicable disease:
Communicable diseases are infectious diseases that are caused by a number of disease causing organisms called pathogens like bacteria, fungi, and protozoans. These type of diseases spreads rapidly from one person to another by various means like contact, water, air, contaminated food etc.
Examples of communicable diseases are cholera, typhoid, dengue etc.
The basic key to prevention of communicable diseases is by keeping the environment lean and maintaining good hygiene.
Good personal and public hygiene: Some good personal hygiene practices are- Cover the mouth and nose with a handkerchief while coughing and sneezing. Eat properly heated and freshly cooked food. Always keep the food covered and drink boiled and safe water only.
Clean environment: Along with personal hygiene, clean community environment like proper disposal of waste, keeping the drains clean etc. is equally essential. Diseases that spread through carriers like mosquitoes and house flies can be prevented by killing the carriers.
Malaria and dengue spread by mosquitoes. Since mosquitoes breed in water, malaria and dengue can be prevented by not letting the water collect in and around the house. Kerosene should be put in open drains to kill the larvae of mosquitoes
