Solution

Lamarckism:

  1. Jean-Baptiste de Monet Lamarck proposed Lamarckism in the years 1744-1829.
  2. This theory was founded based on the idea that all physical changes that occur in an individual during their lifespan are passed down to their successive generations.
  3. The theory of organ use and disuse was proposed by Jean Baptiste Lamarck.
  4. He established the law of use and disuse, which states that when specific organs become specifically developed as a result of a necessity in the environment, that condition is hereditary and can be passed down to the progeny.

Examples that support Lamarckism:

  1. The elongated neck of the giraffe is a classical example used to convey the concept of use and disuse. According to Lamarck's theory, a giraffe's neck could elongate over a period of time of straining to reach high branches. This elongation of the neck in giraffes is then passed down from one generation to another. Development of an organ when used multiple times.
  2. The webbed feet of aquatic birds and flying frogs that is an adaptation to help them to maintain their balance during prolonged leaps.
