Solution

  • Mixture:
  • If two or more substances (elements or compounds or both) are mixed together in any proportion, such that they do not undergo any chemical change, but retain their individual properties, then it is called a mixture.

  • Mixtures are of two types:
  1. Homogeneous mixture
  2. Heterogeneous mixture

  • Examples of mixtures and their method of Separation;

Sugar solution

  1. It is a mixture of sugar and water. It is a type of homogeneous mixture. Sugar can be separated from its solution by the crystallization process.
  2. When a sugar solution is heated and allowed to cool down naturally, one can see the crystals of sugar forming in the solution getting separated from Water.

Salt solution

  1. It is a mixture of salt and water. Salt can be separated from the mixture of water and common salt by evaporating it, in which water is evaporated and salt is left behind.

Alloys

  1. They are examples of Homogenous mixtures.
  2. They can be formed by mixing two or more molten metals like brass, an alloy of copper, and zinc. By melting the alloy and using electrolysis, its components can be separated.
