Open in App
Solution

Inertia:

Inertia is defined as a property of matter by which it remains at the state of rest or in uniform motion in the same straight line unless acted upon by some external force.

Inertia of direction:

When the resistance is offered by the body to continue the motion in the same direction unless an external force acts on it.

Examples:

  1. Due to inertia of direction, when a car makes a fast turn at a high speed, the driver is thrown to the side.
  2. Because of directional inertia, the spark from a grinding stone is tangential to the rotating stone.
