Insectivorous plants grow in nitrogen deficient soil, so to fulfil the requirement of nitrogen these plants trap insects.
These plants are modified in such a way to trap the insects easily.
Examples of insectivorous plants
Pitcher plant: In the pitcher plant, the lamina of the leaf is modified into a trapping device called pitcher .As soon as the insect enters the pitcher, the lid closes and the insects get trapped and digested by the juice secreted at the bottom of the pitcher.
Venus flytrap: In this plant, the edges of the leaves have long pointed hairs. When an insect visit the plant, the leaf suddenly closes and the insect gets trapped and digested by the juice secreted by the leaf.
Bladderwort: The leaves of bladderwort are highly segmented. When an insect enters through the opening, it gets trapped and get digested by the juice secreted by the leaves.
