Solution

Monocotyledonous seeds:

  1. Monocotyledonous seeds are those which have a single cotyledon.
  2. They give rise to monocotyledonous plants such as wheat, rice, maize, onion, and barley.
  3. Monocotyledonous seeds are mostly endospermic or albuminous.
  4. Albuminous seeds are endospermic seeds, endosperm persists in the mature seed and acts as a food storage tissue.
  5. In hypogeal germination, the seed remains inside the soil during germination.
  6. This is due to the fact that the epicotyl elongates faster than the hypocotyl so that the cotyledons remain inside the soil.
  7. For example- wheat, rice, maize, pea, groundnut, mango, etc.

Final answer: Two examples of Monocotyledonous endospermic seeds showing hypogeal germination: wheat and rice
