Solution
The type of respiration in which glucose is not completely oxidized is called anaerobic respiration.
It occurs in the lack or absence of oxygen in the cell cytoplasm.
Examples of anaerobic respiration
In lack of oxygen, glucose is oxidized to form pyruvate or pyruvic acid, further converted into lactic acid and energy. This type of anaerobic respiration occurs in muscle cells during vigorous exercise.
In the absence of oxygen, pyruvate or pyruvic acid is converted to ethanol. This type of anaerobic respiration occurs in yeast cells.
