Give two important characteristics each of Cyanobacteria and Archaebacteria.

Cyanobacteria-

  1. Cyanobacteria are eukaryotic, that is, they have a well-defined nucleus with a nuclear membrane.
  2. Cyanobacteria can act as both unicellular and multicellular.

Archaebacteria-

  1. They are obligatory or facultative anaerobes, hence they can even undergo methanogenesis and survive in the absence of oxygen.
  2. They have thick and rigid cell walls as a result of which they do not burst open in a ‘hypotonic environment’.
