When a sensory nerve ending is triggered, a nerve impulse passes down a sensory(afferent) neuron to the spinal cord, as shown in the diagram. The impulse is passed on to a motor(efferent) neuron by the association neuron. The impulse is sent from the motor neuron to a muscle, which contracts and moves a body part.​
