If an individual has the same allele from each parent for a gene pair, that individual is homozygous for that gene. If an individual has different alleles for a gene pair, that individual is heterozygous for that gene.
For example, crossing tall (TT) pea plants with short (tt) pea plants produces plants that get the tall allele T from one parent plant and the short allele t from the other, giving the plants a Tt gene pair. Because the plants have one tall allele and one short one; they are heterozygous. It also produces plants that get two short alleles t, giving the plants a tt gene pair. Because the plants have two short alleles; they are homozygous.
So, the answer is- TT : Homozygous :: Tt : Heterozygous
