Solution

Fertilization:

  1. Fertilization is a fusion of male and female gametes i.e. spermatozoa and ovum. This occurs in the fallopian tubes of the human female.
  2. Fertilization requires three main steps, (i) penetration of sperm into ovum, (ii) activation of ovum (iii) fusion of sperm and egg nucleus.
  3. The fertilized ovum then moves to the uterus for implantation.

Uterus (womb):

  1. The two fallopian tubes open into a strong muscular sac called the uterus.
  2. The uterus is situated above and behind the urinary bladder and remains attached to the body wall by ligaments

Implantation:

  1. Fixing of developing zygote on the uterine wall is known as Implantation.
  2. Implantation is the attachment of the blastocyst to the uterine wall.
  3. Implantation usually takes place about 5-7 days after ovulation.
  4. Implantation occurs about a week after fertilization.

Gestation period:

  1. The period of complete intrauterine development of the embryo is called the gestation period.
  2. The gestation period is about 270 days in humans.
  3. The gestation period may be considered to be 40 weeks or 280 days by calculating it from the days of previous mensuration.

Parturition

  1. Parturition is the act of expelling the full young one from the mother's uterus at the end of gestation.

Final answer:
