Question

Given below are two statements, Assertion(A) and Reason(R).

Assertion(A): A negatively charged particle is projected near a current carrying conductor along the direction of current, then the negative charge moves away from the conductor.

Reason(R): The current carrying conductor produces magnetic field and the moving charge also produces magnetic field.

A
Assertion is false, but Reason is true.

Solution

The correct option is D Both Assertion and Reason are true, and Reason is not the correct explanation for Assertion.
Let us suppose the situations shown in the figure. Here, the negatively charged particle is kept on both side of the current carrying conductor. Also, the direction of magnetic field is shown.

Using the right-hand thumb rule, we can see that, the negatively charged particle will move away from the conductor as magnetic force on it is away from the conductor when it is kept on either side of the conductor.

Also, we know that, the current carrying conductor produces magnetic field and the moving charge also produces magnetic field.

Hence, option (B) is correct.
