Question

Given below are two statements.

Assertion : When an inductor is connected to a circuit with DC source, two processes, which are called "storing" and "decaying" energy, will happen in specific conditions.

Reason : Voltage of DC source remains constant with time.

Solution

The correct option is B Both assertion and reason are true, but reason is not the correct explanation of assertion.
We know that, when an inductor is connected with a DC source, storing of energy takes place until steady state is reached.

While when this inductor, after achieving steady state, is disconnected from source and connected with a resistor then, dissipation of energy takes place across the resistor.

Also, voltage of DC source remains constant with time.

Hence, both assertion and reason are true, but reason is not the correct explanation of assertion.
