  • PCR or polymerase chain reaction is a technique used in molecular biology to create several copies of a certain DNA segment. A thermocycler or DNA amplifier is a laboratory device used to amplify small samples of DNA via polymerase chain reaction. PCR needs the reaction mixture to be taken through different levels of temperature very quickly for a successful amplification. PCR enables the amplification of billions of copies of template DNA.
  • Antibiotic resistance genes i.e. amplicillin resistant and tetracycline resistant gene act as selectable markers to distinguish between transformant and non transformant, recombinant and non recombinant.
