Solution

The correct option is B

Statement 1 is correct but statement 2 is incorrect

Answer (B)

Explanation for correct option:

Alkane are very less reactive as they are very stable. Oxidizing agents like KMnO4 usually have no effect on alkanes. But, alkanes which have a tertiary hydrogen can get oxidized to form alcohol when reacted with KMnO4.

2-methyl-butane

Explanation for incorrect option:

n-alkanesKMnO4No reaction

n-alkanes have sigma bonds and no pi bonds. Due to this fact, they are very stable in nature and do not react with KMnO4 and therefore no oxidation takes place.

Hence (B) is correct option.
