(d) The stage that follows after prophase is ‘metaphase’.
  • Metaphase can be identified by the arrangement of chromosomes in one plane on the equator.
  • The centromeres of each chromosome attach to the spindle fibres and are drawn to the equatorial plane by the equal pull of the spindle fibres.
