The male reproductive system’s maturation and development is a hormonally controlled process in which multiple hormones are involved.

Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) is the hormone that is released from the hypothalamus that stimulates the anterior pituitary gland to produce gonadotropins - Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH).

Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) produced from pituitary glands controls the development of spermatogonia (sperm mother cells) into spermatozoa (sperm cells) via a process of spermatogenesis (production of sperms).

Prolactin is also released from the anterior pituitary and it is involved in promoting the production of milk in the mammary glands.

Luteinizing hormone (LH) is also called interstitial cell-stimulating hormone (ICSH) as it stimulates the Leydig cells for the production of testosterone (male sex hormone). Testosterone is the male sex hormones that regulate male fertility, sperm production and the development of male secondary sexual characters like distribution of body hair, male sex drive, deepening of voice, etc.
