Solution

The correct option is D

D - Synthesis phase

In a cell cycle, there are two main phases - interphase and mitotic phase. Interphase is divided into 3 stages - G1, S, and G2. G1 is the first growth phase. S is the synthesis phase and G2 is the second growth phase. The M-phase starts with the nuclear division, corresponding to the separation of daughter chromosomes (karyokinesis) and usually ends with the division of the cytoplasm (cytokinesis). Mitosis too is divided into four subsequent stages; prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase. Therefore, A is karyokinesis, B is anaphase, C is cytokinesis and D is the synthesis phase which is the correct option.
