Wool is obtained from fur-bearing animals like sheep, goats, yaks. etc. The steps involved in the production of wool is as follows:
1) The First step involves taking proper care of sheep by providing them with proper food and shelter. This process is called rearing of sheep. To ensure the production of good quality wool from the sheep, parent sheep with high-fur quality are selected to give birth to the young ones. This process is called selective breeding of sheep.
2) Once the reared sheep has developed a thick growth of hair, or fleece, it is shaved off and this process is called shearing.
3) The sheared fleece is thoroughly washed in tanks to remove grease, dust, and dirt. This process is called scouring.
4) After scouring, the fibres of cleaned fleece are separated based on texture, fineness, and length. This process is called sorting.
5) After sorting; small, soft, fluffy fibres called burrs are removed and the required fibres are straightened by carding and combing. This is called cleaning burrs.
6) In the next step, the fibres are dyed in various colours by a process called dyeing.
6) The dyed fibres are twisted and wound into yarns by a process called rolling or spinning.
Therefore, the correct order of production of wool is:
Shearing → Scouring → Sorting → Cleaning burrs → Dyeing → Rolling
