The Bet
Placing faith in a stranger is never an easy task but there are some who have the knack of identifying the basic goodness in a man. This is about one such 25 year old banker who was manning the loan clearance desk in his bank. One morning when a seemingly illiterate man sat before him requesting a small loan to start a business venture of his own the banker was in two minds. But he decided to place a bet on the man and gave him a small loan of Rs. 5000/- to be repaid over a period of five years. The first year passed and no repayment of the loan was seen. The auditors were informed that the man had been put in a prison for fraud. The second year also the same story was repeated. The banker was taken t o t ask because for six continuous years the loan remained unpaid. He was removed from his important post and the loan amount deducted from his salary.
But one fine day at the end of the seventh year a gentleman entered the bank. He was dressed well, wore expensive clothes and had come out of an expensive car. He looked around the bank and walked straight to the banker. He bent low to touch the banker's feet and thanked him warmly for trusting him when no one else had. He had been falsely accused and sent to prison for six years but had been declared innocent and let off about 8 months back. He had set up a small outsourcing business and had done very well. He thanked the banker again and again and offered him a Director's post in his enterprise.
As they say trust and faith can change the course the mightiest of oceans!!
