Given below is the diagram of a bacteriophage. In which one of the options all the four parts a, b, c, and d are correct?
(a)-Head,(b)-Sheath,(c)-Collar,(d)-Tail fibres
Bacteriophages are viruses which infect bacteria. The structure of a typical bacteriophage includes a head and a tail. The geometrically shaped head or capsid contains protein, and stores the genetic material. From the capsid, runs the tail, which is a hollow tube that serves as a passageway for the genetic material to pass from the capsid to the host bacteria. The entire tail is covered with a sheath. Tail fibers present at the bottom of the tail are used to securely attach the bacteriophage to the bacterial surface. These fibers contract during an infection.
