Given below is the representation of a certain event at a particular stage of a type of cell division. Which is this stage?
Prophase I during meiosis
During prophase I of Meiosis I, a very important event, called crossing over occurs. In this stage of meiosis, homologous chromosomes form chiasmata (singular: chiasma) or intersection points between them. After the formation of chiasmata at different points, the members (chromosomes) of the homologous pair exchange chromosomal segments with each other. This is the basis of genetic recombination.
