The correct option is B (a) 2 , (b) Diamond
  • a) Point A and B are triple points since at these points Carbon can exist in three phases at equilibrium. At point A graphite , liquid and vapour phases exists at equilibrium and at point B diamond, graphite and liquid phase exist at equilibrium.

b) The phase which has the higher density is the phase which exists under higher pressure and lower temperature. Thus, in a phase diagram showing pressure as a function of temperature, look for the phase which lies in the upper left region.From the diagram it is clear that diamond has higher density.
