(i) Noise pollution is shown in the picture.

Noise pollution: Noise pollution is usually defined as repeated exposure to high levels of sound that may have negative impacts on people or other living beings.

(ii) Three common sources of noise pollution:

  1. Use of loudspeakers, and music systems in social gatherings, festivals, political meetings, etc.
  2. Loud noise from the machine in the industrial area.
  3. Construction work and noise created by the vehicles.

(iii) Three harmful effects of noise pollution on human health:

  1. Hearing disability.
  2. Psychological disorder.
  3. Lower efficiency at work.

(iv) Pollutants:

  1. A pollutant is a material that exists in amounts that are harmful to organisms (people, plants, including animals) or surpass an environmental quality threshold.
  2. The term is generally used simply with the contaminant.

(v) Soil pollution:

Soil pollution is the poisoning of soil with abnormally high levels of toxic substances. The toxic substances which affect the soil health and quality are called as soil pollutants.

Two soil pollutants are:

a. Hydrocarbons: The unintentional or intentional release of hydrocarbons into the environment is a major source of water and soil contamination.

b. Heavy metals: Heavy metal contamination in soil poses a risk to the environment and food production as a result of the rapid rise of agricultural and industrial.
