Question

given : molar mass of carbon is 12gmand oxygen is 16gm. Avagadro number N0= 6.022 x 1023 .
  1. calculate the mass of 0.5 moles of CO2 .
  2. calculate the number of particles in 8gmof oxygen molecule .

Solution

1) Molar mass of CO2 = 12 + 2×16 = 44 g mol-1
Number of moles (n) = 0.5 moles
n = Given massMolar mass

0.5 = Given mass44
Mass of 0.5 moles of CO2 is 22 g.

2) Molar mass of oxygen molecule = 32 g mol-1
32 g of oxygen molecule contains = 6.022×1023 particles
8 g of O2 = 6.022×102332×8 = 1.5 ×1023 particles
