$4 x - 3 y = 6$ ........... $(i)$
$x - 3 y = - 3$ ........... $(i i)$
Multiply $(i i)$ by $4,$ we get
$x \times 4 - 3 y \times 4 = - 3 \times 4$
$\Rightarrow 4 x - 12 y = - 12$ ........... $(i i i)$
Subtract $(i i i)$ with $(i)$ , we get
$(4 x - 3 y) - (4 x - 12 y) = 6 - (- 12)$
$\Rightarrow 4 x - 3 y - 4 x + 12 y = 6 + 12$
$\Rightarrow - 3 y + 12 y = 18$
