Let the total fuel in the tank be x gal and express other values using x.

Initial fuel after first refilling = 12x
Fuel consumed while traveling = 18x
Fuel refilled after traveling = 14x
Fuel present in the tank at the end = 12 gallon

Fuel left in the tank = Fuel refilled - Fuel consumed

12=12x +18x 14x

12=1× 4x + 1× 1x 1× 2x8

12=4x+ 1x2x8

38x =12

x=8×4

x=32

Hence, the original capacity of the fuel tank is 32 gallons.
