Gametogenesis is a complex and multistep process of forming mature haploid gametes, during which many structures are formed from precursor cells (germ cells).

Secondary spermatocytes, the first polar body during the process of gametogenesis are formed after meiosis I division whereas the ovum is formed after meiosis II. Thus all the structures are haploid.
