Solution

Dear Student

As the electrode potential for the half cell reaction is :
Cu2-+2e- Cu Eo= 0.34 V ..............................(1)As the Eo is intensive property, hence Gois calculated Go = - nFEoGo for this reaction is = -2F×0.34 = -0.68FCu- + e- Cu Eo = 0.522 V .............................(2)Go for this reaction is =-1F× 0.522 = -0.522F
Now the desired reaction is
Cu2-+ e- Cu- G3 =-1F E3oTo get this reaction eq (1) - eq(2)Hence, Go3 =Go1- Go2 - F E3o = - 0.68 F + 0.522 F E3o = 0.68 - 0.522 = 0.158 V

So the electrode potential for the desired reaction is E(Cu2-/Cu-) = 0.158 V
