Glass wares are wrapped in straw during their transportation.give reason.

Solution

The glasswares are very brittle. The empty space in the middle of the glassware responds to vibrations and can help the glass break. Glass breaks easily when it collides against heavier items. When many items are mixed and packed, it is safer to pack glassware with thick layers of straw.

A thick layer of Straw absorbs external shock or force, and gets deformed and compressed. It absorbs the compressive force. When pressure is released, the straw does not return back to its original position. Also the external pressure is passed on to the glassware, only in small quantity.

Also, by wrapping straw around the glassware, the surface area which absorbs the external pressure is increased. The pressure on glassware becomes uniform and spread over a wide area. So the glassware doesnot break
