Glenoid cavity:

  1. Glenoid cavity is bone depression in the scapula bone that facilitates the attachment of a bone-forming joint.
  2. It is present in the shoulder and clavicle bone.
  3. The glenoid cavity is known as the glenoid fossa.
  4. There is a pyriform (pear-like) aperture present at the thickest part of the scapula.
  5. At the glenohumeral joint, the glenoid cavity articulates with the proximal end of the humerus bone.
  6. At the sternoclavicular joint, the glenoid cavity articulates with the manubrium (superior part) of the sternum (also known as breast bone) at the round sternal medial end.
  7. At the acromioclavicular joint, the glenoid cavity attaches the shoulder blade to its flat acromial lateral head.
