Carbohydrates can be monosaccharides (single unit of simple sugar), oligosaccharides (few units of simple sugars) or polysaccharides (multiple unit of simple sugars). In polysaccharides two things are important-one the constituent unit and second the type of linkage between the units.
Glycogen, starch and cellulose are all polymers of glucose. The glycogen is most common storage polymer in animals and starch is the most common storage form in plants. They have similarity in their structure (both in terms of constituent monomer and linkage), because they have to perform same function i.e., storage. However cellulose is different. Its function is structural support. The glucose units in cellulose are linked differently in cellulose as compared to glycogen and starch.
