Solution

The correct option is D Insects
Bt-brinjal in India has been developed for resistance against insects. It contains the gene for Bt-toxin (cry protein) taken from bacillus thuringiensis.

The crystalline (Cry) protein exists as inactive protoxins in, but once a target insect ingests the Cry protein, it gets solubilized in its alkaline midgut and gets activated by proteases. This is followed by binding to specific receptors located in the insect midgut epithelial cells and creating pores that eventually lead to the death of the insect.
