(ii) The ability of plants to follow different pathways in response to the environment or phases of life to form different kinds of structures is called plasticity.
(iii) The mathematical expression for arithmetic growth is Lt=L0 + rt while for geometric growth, it is Wt=W0ert.
(iv) The form of growth wherein new cells are always being added to the plant body by the activity of the meristem, is called the open form of growth.

Solution

The correct option is A (ii), (iii) and (iv)
1. In geometric growth, the initial growth is slow (lag phase) and it increases rapidly at an exponential rate (log phase) as the progeny cell undergoes mitotic division. However, the nutrient supply is limited, the growth slows down leading to a stationary phase.
2. While in arithmetic growth, one daughter cell continues to divide whereas the other cells differentiate and mature.
3. The ability of plants to follow different pathways in response to the environment or phases of life to form different kinds of structures is called plasticity. Example is the phenomenon of heterophylly in buttercup.
4. The mathematical expression for arithmetic growth is Lt=L0 + rt while for geometric growth, it is Wt=W0ert.
5. The form of growth wherein new cells are always being added to the plant body by the activity of the meristem, is called the open form of growth.
