Heart consists of four chambers. The two upper chambers are called atria and the two lower chambers are called ventricles.
Left atrium and left ventricle recieves the oxygenated blood and circulates it to all parts of the body through blood vessels.
Similarly, right atrium and right ventricle receives the deoxygenated blood which is sent to the lungs for oxygenation.
To ensure a unidirectional flow of blood from atrium to ventricles and then the blood vessels, valves are present in the heart. They prevent the backflow of blood.
