Aqua Regia is formed when one part of concentrated $H N O_{3}$ is mixed with $3$ parts of concentrated $H C l$ . It dissolves gold and platinum in following way.
$A u + 4 H^{+} + N O_{3}^{-} + 4 C l^{-} \to A u C l_{4}^{-} + N O + 2 H_{2} O$
$3 P t + 16 H^{+} + 18 C l^{-} \to 3 H C l_{6}^{2 -} + 4 N O + 8 H_{2} O$
