Good Afternoon sir/mam

Q.. What are the proper Significance of Raoult's Law ?

Open in App
Solution

Raoults law states that:

For a mixture(solution) of volatile liquids, the partial vapour pressure of each liquid component is directly proportional to its corresponding mole fraction in the solution.

P=(P°)*(X)

where P°=Vapour pressure of pure liquid component,X=mole fraction,P=partial VP

Raoults law can be said to be a special case of Henry's Law, wherein Henrys constant has the value of P°.

A solution of liquids following Raoults law for entire range of temperatures and concentrations (called ideal solution) signifies that the interactions between the particles of individual liquids are as strong as those between the particles of different liquid components in the solution. It also signifies that volume and enthalpy change for formation of the solution is zero.
