grapes hanging on the plant do not ferment but after being plucked from the plant can be fermented . under what conditions do these grapes ferment ? is it a chemical change or physical change ?

Dear student ,

The microorganism used to make the wine is yeast usually Saccharomyces cerevisiae . The wine is made from the fermentation of grape juices. During this process, ethyl alcohol or ethanol is formed and carbon dioxide is released as a by-product. Proper temperature should be maintained during fermentation (around 25 °C) as higher temperature can kill yeast.
It is a chemical change because it cannot be reversed.
