Question

Gravitational force on the surface of the moon is only 16 as strong as gravitational force on the earth. What is the weight in newtons of a 10 kg object on the moon and on the Earth?

Solution

We know that,
Weight = Mass × Acceleration due to gravity
Acceleration due to gravity on earth = 9.8m/s2
Therefore, weight of a 10 kg object on earth =10×9.8=98 N
Weight of an object on the moon =16× Weight of the object on earth
=16×98=16.3 N
