In gunpowder, Nitre $= 75$ $%$ , Sulphur $= 10$ $%$
(i) Let the amount of gunpowder be $x k g$ , in which $9 k g$ of nitre is mixed.
So, $75 %$ of $x = 9$
$\Rightarrow \frac{75}{100} \times x = 9$
$\Rightarrow \frac{3}{4} \times x = 9$
$\Rightarrow x = 9 \times \frac{4}{3}$
$= 3 \times 4$
$∴ x = 12 k g$
(ii) Let amount of gunpowder be $y k g$ , in which $2.5 k g$ of sulphur is mixed.
So, $10 %$ of $y = 2.5$
$\Rightarrow \frac{10}{100} \times y = 2.5$
$\Rightarrow \frac{1}{10} \times y = 2.5$
$\Rightarrow y = 2.5 \times 10$
$∴ y = 25 k g$
