Gunpowder contains 75% nitre and 10% sulphur. Find the amount of the gunpowder which carrries 9 kg nitre. What amount of gunpowder would contain 2.3 kg sulphur?

(i)In gunpowder,

Nitre =75%

Sulphur =10%

Let total amount of gunpowder = $x$ kg

Nitre =9 kg

$\therefore$ 75% of $x=9\Rightarrow \frac{75}{100}\times x=9$

$\Rightarrow x=\frac{9\times 100}{75}=12$

$\therefore$ Amount of gunpowder =12 kg

(ii)Sulphur =2.3 kg

$\therefore$ 10% of $x=2.3\Rightarrow \frac{10}{100}\times x=2.3\Rightarrow x=\frac{2.3\times 100}{10}=23$

$\therefore$ Amount of gunpowder =23 kg.
