It oxidizes hydrogen peroxide in acidic and basic medium. Hence, hydrogen peroxide can be estimated with potassium permanganate in acidic as well as basic medium.
$H_{2} O_{2} \to H_{2} O + \frac{1}{2} O_{2}$
