Question

H2O is a liquid but H2S is a gas. Explain why?

Open in App
Solution

In water, Hydrogen bonding is possible resulting in strong inter-nuclear bonding because of high electro-negativity of oxygen while in H2S, only weak Van Der Waal's or London force of attraction between molecules is possible.
Therefore, H2O is liquid & H2S is gas at room temperature.
