Question

H3PO4 is a tribasic acid with pKa1,pKa2 and pKa3 2.12,7.21 and 12.32, respectively. It is used in fertiliser productions and its various salts are used in food, detergent, toothpaste, and in metal treatment.
Small quantities of H3PO4 are used in imparting the sour or tart taste to soft drinkes, such as Coca Cola, and beers, in which H3PO4 is present 0.05% by weight (density=1.0gmL1). 103MH3PO4(pH=7) is used in fertilisers as an aqueous soil digesting. Plants can absorb zinc in water soluble form only. Zinc phosphate is the source of zinc and PO32 ions in the soil. Ksp of zonic phosphate

Solution

The correct option is A 2.9×1011M
pH=7
[H3O+]=107
pKa1, pKa2 and pKa3 are 2.12, 7.21 and 12.32 respectively. Hence, Ka1, Ka2 and Ka3 are 7.59×103, 6.17×108 and 4.79×1013 respectively.
Note: Ka=10pKa
f3=Ka1Ka2Ka3Ka1Ka2Ka3+Ka1Ka2[H3O+]+Ka1[H3O+]2+[H3O+]3
f3=7.59×103×6.17×108×4.79×10137.59×103×6.17×108×4.79×1013+7.59×103×6.17×108×107+7.59×103×(107)2+(107)3
f3=1.83×106
Let the solubility of [Zn3(PO4)2] be S M.
[Zn2+]=3S M
[PO34]=f3×2S
Ksp=[Zn2+]3[PO34]2
9.1×1033=(3S)3×(f3×2S)2
9.1×1033=(3S)3×(1.83×106×2S)2
S=3.0×105 M
[Zn2+]=3S=3×3.0×105=9×105 M
Hence, the option (D) is the answer.
