Solution

The correct option is B Discovering the mutations induced by X-rays
Muller used radioactivity (X- and UV rays) to produce point mutations in the fruit fly Drosophila; he concluded that radioactive particles traverse through the chromosomes and randomly affect the molecular structure of individual genes, making them either non-functional or with altered function. He published his result under title “Artificial Transmutation of Gene”. Muller received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1946. The correct answer is B. Morgan studied heredity of different characters in Drosophila including sex-linked inheritance, linkage; proposed chromosomal theory of inheritance; genes are located on chromosomes and few genes follow linkage. He created first ever genetic map, of Drosophila, with his student Sturtevant. The correct answer is B.
