Question

H2O2 acts as what when reacting with ozone?

Open in App
Solution

H2O2 as a reducing agent:

  • When hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) reacts with Ozone(O3) the reaction proceeds as follows:

H2O2(l)(Hydrogenperoxide)+O3(g)(Oxygen)H2O(l)(Water)+2O2(g)(Oxygen)

  • As ozone is the better oxidising agent, hence hydrogen peroxide acts as a reducing agent to reduce ozone to oxygen.

Hence, H2O2acts as a reducing agent when reacting with Ozone.
